Stuck.
I was running along this afternoon. It was a beautiful, crisp, sunny day and yet, I just couldn't seem to get it together. There was nothing particularly wrong, but nothing particularly right. Until somewhere between mile two and three. I watched a family pull into their driveway and everyone proceeded to unfold from their vehicle. And then I saw the cute little girl dangling awkwardly from the backdoor of the truck. It was a big truck, and she had one foot touching the ground but definitely not planted and the other foot bent far behind her. She struggled for a moment and then started calling to her mom. There weren't a lot of words, but she was stuck and she said so. "My foot is stuck. Mommy I'm stuck. Stuck." And "stuck" began to sound frantic. The mom was on the otherside of the car and busy, as moms tend to be, with stuff mom's are busy with when the afterschool hours start. So I picked up my pace and called "Wait, wait. I'll help you." (Don't worry, I am at least a vague acquaintance of these people.) I told her not to struggle and then I easily helped her unstick her foot. A couple of seconds of unsticking and that little girl with the glasses was happily on her way to an afterschool snack and I was on my way to the rest of my run. And magically, I found myself unstuck. Apparently, unsticking yourself is easy if you start with unsticking someone else first.
